Every day when I scroll through reels, I save anything that interests me either in a google chrome tab (for a quick search) or to my references folder directly on instagram.
Today at 22.847, I’ve picked out two of the things I saved yesterday: Nani Marquina and RCR Arquitetes.
Nani Marquina
This brand was founded by Nani Marquina, an interior designer from Barcelona who became an independent textile designer when she couldn’t find rugs to fill the spaces of her clients. I don’t know much about rugs, but what struck me about the designs was the color palette (reminds me of the earthy designs being put out for xlim’s episode 5 drop):
The most popular rug they offer is the Tres Rug (pictured above), but they also have these cool rugs inspired by Calder’s mobiles. I’ve seen a few Calder pieces in the past (once at the Leeum Museum in Seoul and more recently at the Whitney). I’ll be seeing more Calder at MASI Lugano when I visit Switzerland in August which I’m quite excited for (shoutout to Eric).
Another thing I noticed while learning about Nani Marquina was the detailed sizing guide that they have on their website. They provide size and placement suggestions for the following spaces: living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen, bath, terrace, and even for a swimming pool. I thought this graphic with two runner rugs was particularly interesting (didn’t know what a runner rug was previously).
RCR Arquitetes
Found this through my explore page— RCR Arquitetes is a Spanish architecture firm that won the Pritzker Prize for Architecture in 2017 (even though they were relatively unknown compared to the other nominees). The beautiful planning space for this firm is what caught my eye in the instagram post, but more importantly, I first saw a similar picture from the JJJJound image library back when I first picked up drawing. This picture in particular is located very far up in the mood board.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been able to recognize previous references that I’ve drawn. Here is another example that I found while walking around Soho. This reference here was used for the first drawing I ever drew in a sketchbook (it took me around one year to fill up that sketchbook, front and back).
If our interests align, send me a message! You can also find me on instagram @ktaetaetaetae. I share drawings and occasionally other things like pickups, music, or photos I’ve taken.
